Effective January 1st, 2024 the State of California now requires all restaurant employers to cover the cost of the mandatory CA Food Handler Card training for all their employees.
How does SB 476 affect my business?

Employers must relieve employees of all their duties while they take their food handler training, which must be completed within 30 days of their hire date.
New Hires
Obtaining a food handler certificate card can no longer be used as a pre-requisite for employment in California.

Restaurant employers must now cover the cost of the food handler course and the time spent completing it, compensating the time at the employee's hourly rate.
